A little about what we do

The SL-Emergency Management Agency is here to bring together ALL virtual public safety forces. Our mission is to promote inter agency cooperation. Coordinate joint and mutual aid and training's.

We are here to provide dispatching services and agency coordination for any member of the Second Life International Association of Firefighters (SLIAFF) or the Second Life Fraternal Order of Police (SLFOP) that request it. Our mission is to ease fire ground and incident communications so you can focus more on your role play.

If you are an agency owner / founder / director and wish to join please see our Membership Application page.

Please note: your department must be a member of the SLIAFF or the SLFOP to be considered for membership and our dispatching services.

Our original proposal to the SLIAFF and SLFOP:
"The SL-EMA would like to provide a centralized dispatch solution for members of both SLIAFF and the SLFOP. I realize this has been tried in the past but for what it's worth I think it was gone about all wrong. While I would love to say we can do it all that would be unrealistic. We are a small group trying to grow. Initially, we would be unable to provide a paging service to member departments. There are too many variables on how each departments makes or receives calls. Some use alarm systems while others use a handful of people or some combination of both and more. It would not be feasible to provide this currently but might be something we could add in the future.

What we can do:
  • Prior to any actual dispatching we would meet with the Chief level officers of any department (fire, police, EMS, etc.) wanting to use our service. They can provide information on who their preferred mutual aid companies are and also provide contact info for them. In this case the more info and access we have the easier it is to get them help while out on an incident. At that point we would then reach out to those mutual aid companies and provide our contact info as well so it's easier for everyone to get a hold of each other. For us this is critical because it makes our lives easier too. We would also ask for contact information for any public works or DOT groups they use regularly as well.
  • After a department is initially "toned out" for a call their units would call us (we currently just go by "Firecom" on the radio for fire or "Central" for the police services we currently dispatch for). Just like any real life incident they would call each unit in service and responding. We do track this so we know who is on scene and where. Upon arrival they would call on scene and advise conditions. Our group does not assume anything. We will not call for mutual aid without authorization from the officer in charge
  • If mutual aid is needed we would then call out for that in whatever order the department requesting has specified previously (preferred mutual aid or just go ahead and drop an SLIAFF notice and get me whoever you can).
  • Whether mutual aid is needed or not once called we are as committed as the units on scene are. With the exception of real life intrusions we're at our post until released like the incident is. We will continue to coordinate on scene incident radio traffic if no mutual aid is needed.
  • On our website we posted a "mission statement" of sorts. I'll paste it below but I feel it is important for anyone wanting to use our service to be a part of either the SLIAFF group or the SLFOP group. Our entire purpose is to help coordinate. I personally feel that if you have no desire to be a part of the two biggest emergency services groups in Second Life then you are probably not going to be a good fit for our service.
I will be honest. we currently don't have many people to staff this at first. I personally am eastern time based and am on here most week nights and weekends. I have another part time dispatcher that is on during weekends. Part of asking for notice privileges is because of this. In order to grow our dispatch service I do need to find more people. There are only two good groups in SL with the group exposure to do that. SLIAFF & SLFOP. I believe notices like that should be kept to a minimum in order to avoid flooding the group. If allowed I would do two recruitment notices per month.
Group notice privileges would mainly be used for coordinating mutual aid. A department currently using us has either no prearranged mutual aid companies or those companies are unavailable. At that point they would tell us to strike an "all call" which would be an open SLIAFF group notice for anyone available to respond and with what.  We would like to be able to do the same thing within the SLFOP group.

Our mission statement:
"The SL-Emergency Management Agency is here to bring together ALL virtual public safety forces.

Our mission is to ease fire ground and incident communications so you can focus more on your role play."

I hear the same complaints from Chiefs everywhere. There are two things they hate. Calling for mutual aid. Then dealing with that mutual aid. Most complain that 90% of their incident time is spent in message boxes either calling for help or trying to get that same help to do something once they've arrived. By the time they've managed that the incident is typically over which is no fun at all.
While I don't believe we can provide any sort of end-all / cure-all solution I do believe we can get the ball rolling and grow as the need increases. Thank you and I appreciate that my idea is being considered."
